First timer wanting to know what to have in a :naughty:80 gallon tank and i was just wondering what bichirs you would suggest. I was thinking Senegal, delhezi? If so then how many do you think that would comfortably live for life. I have been reading through the forum and I am sorry if something like this already exists.

no problem you could keep any of the upper jaw species except ornate they will out grow your tank all the lower jaw species would out grow your tank to so
senegal
delhezi
palmas species
and other upper jaws would be fine

in a tank that size with good water changes you could get about 5-6 polys for life i'd say, mabye more

get a 125 wide 72x24x17 I have one I have lower jaws and a Rope fish and Bush fish GOOD SIZE TANK PERFACT FOR bICHIRS.

Hello,

not only size matters ...

If you have a tank with many hiding spots (driftwood) and many plants the bichirs will use not only the ground of the tank (ok, they have to go to the surface to breathe) - they use ALL the space of the tank!
I think a 80 g tank with many plants and driftwood will have more space in relation than a "pure" 125 g tank with no plants and minimized hiding points ...
I've tried many tank arrangements over the years ... since three years i swear on the model "many plants & driftwood".
The hiding places i've built with driftwood will seldom used by the bichirs, they prefer to chill in the rich planting - and can be found seldom on the ground!

Greetings

Uwe
