bought new tank but have to move old tank first to move the new tank into place, its a 240 so i cant just slide it outta the way lol,So heres the deal can i put all my water and fish into containers move my old tank slide the 8 footer into place transfer all my old sand into my new tank then put all my old water back in well 75% of it as thats all im gonna worry about! and then put the original filter back on line once the sand has settled top up with new conditioned water( like a water change) will this cause any problems with bateria blooms or any thing that i need to worry about???? oh also i know that bacteria also grows into your substrate but i have a larger grain of sand i wanna use so what if i use orginal water and the original FX5 just new tank and substrate????? thanks guys

what size tank are u goin from to 240 .... i just asked cause i want to go from a 125 to a 300 and everyone i have talked to said if i flip everything and dont add NO MORE fish ill b ok .....so i would say u should b fine

I think it will work. The only additional precaution I would do is not to feed the fish for a day or so before and after till everything stabilizes
^agree^

I wouldn't use old water either. You'll just be transfering nitrates. No reason to do it IMO.

Not using the same substrate should not give you any problems either. But keep a close eye on the ammonia and nitrite for the first week or so just to be sure.

Just leave water in your filter, get it up and running with fish the same day,and you should be fine.

I would say give it a try but be careful how long you take don't want the bacteria to die or keep the filter running in one of the containers. if not i have read great things about seachem stability.

+2

dont feed for a day or transfer the old water.
i have had no problems changing 100% of the water. obviously matched to the right temp, dechlorinated etc.
the filters should take care of the rest.

good luck get some pics up of the new setup

When I've moved tanks, I usually use all the substrate the filter and media and about 40% of the old tank water. I haven't lost a fish yet this way. Just don't feed them for a couple of days. Let them settle in

ya i figured i wouldnt feed them prior and after well i dont think id wanna use 100%new water i only ever do 50% WC so maybe ill use half the old water both tanks are 240gals just old one is 6x2x32" and new is a 8x2x2 all my fish are large are hardy aswell just that the small grain sand sticks to my rays a little bit just thinking the little bigger grains wont stick as much but dont wannna risk anythin with using nw sand

Use the old water for sure. Use as much as you can. Do not clean the filter when moving it to the new tank. It will get cloudy but it wont be bad like an ammonia haze. Start 10% to 20% water changes the second day and continue on your regular water change schedule as before. If it was 20% every week then keep it the same. The idea is to not kill the BB. The cloudy water will settle out with in a day or so. If you need to add new water when you move your fish count that as the first water change. So 80% old water moved to the new tank, add another 20% to top off the new tank so the filters run. Next week do another 20% water change and so on.
