New 8ft Setup

Hi Guys,

First post here. I've just installed and set up my new 8x2x2 tank. Running with 2 FX6's. I currently have African Cichlids however looking at changing to SA cichlids/Stringray etc.

My question would be is my potential stock list way overstocked? I'm used to African peacocks which easily overstock with 50% WC a week. So keeping bigger fish will be completely new to me. I would love the following;

- BD stingray x1
- Asian Arowana x1
- Ornate Bircher x1
- Fire Eel x1
- Clown Loach x6
- Geo Sveni x4
- Silver tiger Datnoid x1
- Oscar x3 (different Colour variations)
- Severum x3 (different Colour variations)
- Green Terror x2
- Electric blue jack Dempsey x2
- Golden Nugget plec x1
- Zebra Plec x1

With the dimensions you provided, you have a 240 gallons, which is small considering all those fishes you just listed. you also got to remember 2ft "width" will limit your choices on your list.

First off: Welcome to the fun group! Second: Yes you are way too overstocked. I think the best combos would be any of these:

1. 1 Stingray, 1 Asian Arowana, 1 Silver Datnoid and some silver dollars (that might be overstocked but others can clarify)

2. Geos and Severums with the GN pleco.

3. Clown Loaches (put more than 6 Cls) and Asian Arowana

4. Oscar tank (while they are more peaceful than many, I think they should be with their own kind; they are domineering puppy-like fish, which will give you plenty of attention. Plus they steal food from any other fish.

5. 1 GT with either 1 Jack Dempsey, 1 Salvini with some Silver dollars as dithers and 1 Gold Nugget.

6. EBJD with Silver Dollars or Tinfoil barbs, 1-2 Severums and maybe a pleco.

I hope this helps!

P.S. The Zebra Pleco is too small to put with any of those fish. It would be a costly meal. Don't waste $200+ on a potential prey fish.

two other fish you could consider (not both of these at the same time, only separately): Clown Knife and Black Ghost Knife. Awesome fish (especially the CK) and would get along great with the loaches and some of the more peaceful fish.
