I posted this over at piranhaforum.co.uk too, but I thought I'd get some more opinions.

This is the tank, more or less, right now. 48 x 18 x 25, glass top, 48" fluoro strip (will probably dim this), megaflow.

I'm gonna run a 40-gal or so sump/fuge under the tank. I've ordered two emp 400's that I want to run in the sump (so it's not on the actual tank - along with the heater, just wanna get all the stuff out of the way to reduce chances of the rhom biting stuff/wires, plus it looks nicer).

Things I'm worried about

#1. Aeration. Should I put an airstone in the sump? And should I plant the sump? Are freshwater plants as effective as macroalgae in saltwater tanks in removing nitrates/phosphates? What else should I put in the sump/fuge - algae eating snails? I want to try and grow out this rhom, which means perfect water parameters, but I also want clear water so I can watch him in awe.

#2. Is this enough filtration? Two emp 400's in a 90-gal for one rhom? I'm going to get an iwaki magdrive pushing 600-800 gph for the sump, too, so about 7~9 times tank turnover an hour.

This is hopefully what my tank will look like when it's done.

If there's anything wrong with the stuff I wrote or if anything's not okay or if I can improve anything, please correct me. Thanks for your replies.

Wow thats more than enough. Once the cycle is over, add some purigen and do twice weekly water changes and he should grow like a weed.

Forget the emps, forget the purigen, setup a drip system. Then it is one constant waterchange. Params are more stable, and you have less to worry about. Plants for the fuge, would be java moss, in HUGE quanities, and a decent light over it. But personally I would just do the drip system and forget the plants, purigen, and emperors all together.

Put in a powerhead, because water movement builds muscle!
