Hey everyone. I'm new here and was hoping to find some opinions on stocking my new 90 gal. with cichlids. I am not totally new to keeping these guys...I've had Oscars and Africans in the past...but I am new to keeping the big Central Americans , so I am open to suggestions on stocking tips.

The 90 gal was previously a saltwater tank I bought off of a guy recently (bought two from him, actually) so it is a drilled tank with a good sump filtration system. I have thouroghly cleaned it, put in substrate, plenty of river rock and some driftwood. I put in some dither fish (tinfoil barbs) to test the water for me and three very small (1.5 inch) baby Jags that I came across at Petsmart and couldn't pass up, lol. All are doing fine. I wanted a Jag anyway so I am going to let them grow a bit and keep the best one.

I am wanting to order some other cichlids from Jeff Rapps to put in as well. I tend to like the larger, more aggressive species so, obviously, I will be somewhat limited with the number of fish I can keep in a 90. I like the Trimac, RD, Festae, Carpinte, Freddy, Salvini, Jags, ect.

What do those of you with experience think would be the best combination to go with to end up with an impressive tank of fish that are able to live together? They will all be raised together in the same tank. The Jags are tiny and have only been in for a week...should it be ok to add others in a couple of weeks or should I remove the Jags and add everything at once? I would like to add a couple of non-cichlid bottom dwellers as well, if possible. I am at work now but will try to post some pics of the tank when I get home if that helps. Thanks for any input.

all of those fish are extremely aggressive. i would maybe stay w/ 1 jag, texas and salvini. that might not even work, because of the aggression, but i would give it a shot. also the tinfoil barbs make great dithers. i would add all the fish at one time. that way there will be less fights.

I would order a pure labiatus(reddevil) or get a breeding pair, they would look really beatiful in a 90 gallon with black sand so colors stand out.
