I posted some pics awhile back asking for some help to ID a couple of my fish and also some advice on tank size! - Based on the feed back I took the plunge and purchased a 90 gallon!
I'm using the same artificial rocks from my last set up but I did switch from the gravel to a sand substrate! - basically i just wanted to share some pics and say thanks for the advice! My fish seem to love the new environment!
1- fusco
1- red empress
1- yellow lab
1- ice blue zebra

I forgot to mention that I had been worried about the fact that my gold nugget pleco had been missing for quite awhile (always would hide inside the rocks)! When I changed my tank out I found the gold nugget in one of the rocks but it had lost all color and had the majority of it's tail missing! - So currently I have him set up in my original 46 gallon tank and have been treating the water with melafix! After 5 days it appears a full recovery will take place! Now my problem is deciding if there is any possibility to reintroduce back in with the cichlids? Have any of you delt with a problem like this - aggresion from the cichlids to the plecos? If so what advice would you have?

I'm not too sure about the pleco with the cichlids and that relationship but I will say the 90 gallon looks good. You may want to add more fish and a common pleco. I have a 75 gallon with 14 Africans and a common pleco who has done great for well over a year.

If you do reintroduce him let us know how it goes...also what is the large blue fish in the second picture in the back middle of the tank?

Thanks for the pics...

Check out your post in the pleco. section....

thats a beautiful tank! looks great.
as far as the golden nugget he may not be able to take the picking and abuse of the malawis so id probably sell him or give him to someone else. i have a common pleco (and some have used different species of synodontis catfish) with good success-they are thick skinned and can take the abuse..

The tank looks stunning, but it is time you add more fish, and more fish is always a good thing.

yeah i agree with more fish.. i personally would add more yellow labs (for color).

I say you have enough fish. Just look at the size of your fusco!! He is a predator and so is the red empress. Get looking tank!!! Where did you get the fake rock from and how much does it go for?

P. taeniolatus has a lake-wide distribution & is primarily an herbivorous cichlid. It feeds by sucking algae from small pockets in the rocks. Like most cichlids, however, P. taeniolatus is an opportunistic feeder - when plankton is plentiful, it feeds on these as well. This is a relatively mild-mannered cichlid but when courting, males aggressivley defend large territories. These territories are usually atop a large rock.

Fusco

It hunts by ambushing small cichlids. It is classified as a Nimbochromis species but is perhaps more closely related to Tyrannochromis nigriventer and may someday be re-classified.

So yes the Fusco will eat other fish... unlikely red emp will

Yes more fish is a plus. I would think that a Fusco will need something longer in the future... Upgrade later, or sell buy some more mbuna... or better dump all but the red emp, and do a hap peacock tank...

thanks for the compliments on the tank! - Mike, i appreciate the info on the fish - I plan to add fish just researching my options a bit before purchase!

fcs46 - I purchased those rocks about a year ago at Petsmart for $40 each (my local petsmart doesn't carry them anymore)! - The nice thing is they are light weight and hollow - makes cleaning easy and gives the fish excellent hides! I'm sure there are some disadvantages but I'm not sure what they are!

Also, - I plan to leave the gold nugget in the 46 gallon and possibly add 3 smaller mbuna
Thanks again for all the information / advice / compliments
