Got a new fish in at work, something I'd never seen before, so of course I had to get it :shakehead . The distributor called it 'Bigmouth Knife Cat', and my tentative ID from Baensh's Aquarium Atlas is the Helicopter cat, Wallago attu . The info I've found would definitely qualify this as a monster fish! But I'm not really sure if that's what it is--the picture in the Aquarium Atlas looks nothing like the pictures I've seen on google--I'm thinking it's probably in the same genus, as it looks really similar, but a different specie. Anyone ever kept one of these before? Pics? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Perhaps Ompok sp. bimaculatus??... similar looking to Wallago attu??... You can tell the difference of the 2 by W.attu's size mouth. Much larger and deeper set than ompok sp. Also, some Ompok have a black spot near the gill area.

I have kept both species before... here's a pic of the two. You can plainly tell which is which when compared. First 2 pics are of Wallago attu, and last 2 are of Ompok. Hope this helps you. :)

Cool cat!

It's definitely the bottom two pics- Ompok sp. , but without the spot behind gill. It's more mottled in appearance. A very cool fish, he's inhaling guppies. I'll try and post a pic later today. Thanks,]
