I have a hospital tank before I put fish into my main 125 gallon tank. I have a Oscar and a pleco. What tank mates should I think about getting. Oscar is About 4 inches. Any ideas

Something that isn't fragile and can handle the Oscar aggression. My Oscar attacks a lot of fish, eats any smaller fish, and sometimes attacks inanimate objects.
Other big fish is basically your option, but if the fish you have is even more aggressive than the Oscar your gona have a battle royal.

Lol so what do you think I should get. I was thinking a fire mouth

Another Oscar, or you could try a variety of larger growing sa/ca cichlids. Female parachromis, jack Dempseys (also Ebjd), Texas, maybe a female festae, any of the vieja species might work also. Could go another route and get larger bichirs, maybe a pink tailed chalceus or other characins like a shoal of silver dollars. Tons of other options, just keep it large and tough.

I'd say no on the firemouth, at least not a juvenile. they are a slow growing species and the oscar is much faster growing. firemouth can also be pretty wimpy.

You've got plenty of options with you current setup for more tank mates. I'd avoid anything that's truly aggressive; Vieja's, jags, blackbelts, anything with the name terror or devil, etc. Focus more on semi peaceful medium sized ca/sa like Severum's, Firemouth, Nicaraguan, Acara, etc.

Like with all cichlid setups, I'm sure there will be some trial and error, as every fish is different.

I'd also suggest a group of dithers/targets to not only difuse agression but increase in-tank movement; Silver dollar's would do great with that grouping but aren't your only option.

Good luck on the hunt and let us know what you end up with!

Do not get another cichlid LOL! A school of 3 tinfoil barbs would work nice... Alot of people keep oscars with tinfoils! Good combo! And they can take quite a beating to! And ANOTHER plus is they grow very fast (like the oscar...) Just do bot get more the 3 cuz they are active and need room...

Do NOT get a jewel cichlid no matter what... They are small but can kill fish twice their size... I am a jewel fanatic and know my stuff about them! Mine personally when it was 5 inches killed a 7-8 inch oscar... Jewels should stay solo or in a pair... But my male tried to kill my female in the pair... People say never trust a catfish but i think you dan add a jewel to the list :)
