IMG_7255.JPG Here's one of my new guys. 8" tire track. Spunky little guy, calling him Maxxis because of his affinity to crawl through the rock piles in the tank and find ways through them none of the other fish could use (any fellow Jeepers will get the joke) . So far he seems to enjoy ghost shrimp and guppies but has yet to refuse frozen bloodworms, krill or tilapia. Hoping he'll grow quick! Anybody have any tips for these guys? Sorry for the blurry shot it's the only time I've seen him out with enough light on in the tank for a picture. I run the tank dimmed for several hours a day and am rarely home when the lights are all on and I doubt he's out in full light anyway.

Running a dimmed light is definitely good, since they are not strictly day or night active, they prefer dawn and dusk. For food I'd try shrimp or mussel along with what you already mentioned.

I would try to get it off live feeders, especially ghost shrimp. Try to get it eating bloodworms, and then work it into frozen shrimp, earthworms, etc. Once you get it eating a good variety of those higher protein foods it will start to grow like crazy. I don't think tire track eels are quite as picky as fire eels are.

My tank will always have live feeders. I breed my own because my flounder refuses anything but live. Kind of sucks but it's a cool enough fish I can live with it.

most of my fish will eat bloodworms and other frozen stuff. its just the flounder and one of the dats that are holding out on live only. ive seen the TT take frozen krill, hes just so shy so far its hard to tell everything hes actually eating

I know this doesn't belong on this thread, but what kind of tank/filter do you use for your flounder? also what kind of water/salt? I would like one, and want to know what it needs.

the flounder is a freshwater species from SA. He just chills in the sandy areas of my main tank. running FX5s. pretty neat fish, very specialized predator and invisible 99% of the time except for 2 beady eyes poking up through the sand. but super cool to watch eat ghost shrimp or guppies

Very nice! I seldom see them for sale at that size. They are among my favorite fish :)

Agree with Fish Tank Travis Fish Tank Travis advice on feeding. Mine was shy at first too, but came to recognize the feeding tongs and now dances for food if he sees them in my hands.

IMG_7357.JPG Caught the flounder being goofy. He will climb up the sides of the tank and suction down to the glass to get to the guppies up higher. Easily one of my favorite fish I've owned.
