Hey all,
So I finally pulled the trigger on an African brown knife, after months of seeing them in an lfs I frequent, the one I got was the last one all alone in the tank.
I assumed since they have a reputation of hiding that I wouldn't see him/her for a while until it got acclimated to the tank. I was wrong.

I dropped the guy into my 150 poly tank, where everything is bigger than him, except for maybe the loaches but they are still too big for him to even attempt to eat. He proceeded to slowly swim up to every single fish in that tank and "bump" them with his nose. He wasn't being aggressive as far as I could tell but almost as if he was slowly feeling out each new room mate he had haha.

I at first thought this was some type of stalking behavior but he was doing it to all the polys, the bush fish, every one of the 7 man loach squad and even the featherfin catfish. It was comical and I have to say this fish was the best purchase I've made under $20 in a long time haha.

I'll attempt to get pics up after work of the little guy.

Cool oddball knife for sure. Better than African knives for their temperment and much bolder. When they want to be. Sometimes stay hidden all day or active around the tank. Just my experience. May get one myself one day. Great pick up.

I'm by NO means experienced with or an expert on knives of any variant, are there more than one species coming out of Africa?

There are but the one I'm talking about is xenomystus nigiri.

No worries...I'm no expert either. I make it up as I go along lol.

you guys are talking about the same fish

I was talking about xenomystus nigri. I suspected predkeep was talking about the brown knife fish, A. Leptorhyncus. But realized later.
