Hi Everyone,

I'm about to start my first African Tank, as I've managed to free up a tank. I'm wanting to do a Tanganyika tank, with my main fish being Neolamprologus, Multi's.

I'm really hoping to stay on the small fish side as I find them very interesting, so my question is:

- What's the ideal mix of males to females in a Multi harem situation?
- What's another small, peaceful fish that can live with them? Thoughts on Goby Cichlids?

The tank's a 20 Gallon with an Ehiem 2213 and coral sand substrate.

Any suggestions would be great! I'm a complete newbie to Africans so this will be interesting!

Thanks :)

Multis are hard to sex, just put 6 juvies in there.Theyll sort it out and youll have a tankful in no time.
A 20 would be a good species tank not really enough room for another species.

Gobies are awesome super agressive and beautiful, need a much larger tank though.

You might want to try a couple Julie Transcriptus in there. I've never tried that mix, but it should work. Never kept Multis, but Transcriptus are very small and mellow.

I would keep as a shellie only sp. tank....

Sounds good! I wasn't sure about tank mates so I'll just stick with a group of multi's :)

I'm setting the tank up this Monday so I'll post an update then.

Thanks for the help, it's very much appreciated! :D

good luck...

I have julie trans, if they start breeding kiss the multies good bye...

I have transcriptus as well.. but I've never kept them with multis. only larger fish..

Are you saying they'd attack the multies (or just the multi fry).

I believe you, I was just wondering as they seem extremely mellow and nonthreatening..

Ok.. I think you mean when the julies are breeding.. Ok, I can see that (if that's what you meant). I've seen them chase larger fish away, but it was in a big tank.. Maybe in a 20 gallon, they'd kill. I never considered that.
