new african tank setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well for starts I wouldnt put yellow labs with frontosas. I'd say maybe 8-10ish (at full size, if small then I dunno - but I'd probably start with 20 and mix up some other tangs in it) that is what I would put anyways and then add in a few other tangs. Just my opnion though.

agree w/ ash there...go w/ 20 juvenile frotosas and grow them to adult...

you can add altolamprologus calvus, throw some cyprichromis and some brichardis...then u'll have a nice tanganyikan biotope..

I have seen it done before, pretty cool looking tank. If you go with it, do like 8-10 fronts and you could do about 12-15 yellow labs.

Then when the yellow labs breed they give the fronts a little extra food.;)

A group of 5 fronts and about 20 Labidochromis caeruleus. Don't be surprised if you see some labs start to disappear when the fronts approach maximum size. The fronts will also likely be out competed for food. A careful eye must be kept on the health and growth of the fronts. Labs may nip at the front fins as well.

It may be best to stick with Tanganyikan cichlids if you want fronts. Altolamprologus calvus or compressiceps can work well with fronts and provide the yellow you're looking for. Another great addition some overlook with fronts are Clown loaches (Botia macracanthus).

I've seen adult front at night take out some mbuna. That's there hunting time. I would say if you get um all at the same time. Then there might not be many problems. Just keep any eye out.
