Hey everyone.
I saw this fish getting bullied in a LFS and felt super bad for him as I walked around the store for 30 minutes and every time I checked there he was running away and getting his fins nipped on. But he was such a strong swimmer and I knew if I left him there he would be extremely stressed out so I decided I would ask what type of fish he was. The LFS employee had no idea what he was or how big he would get. He eats brine shrimp, blood worms, pellets, hikari pellets and flakes. He is the fastest fish I have ever seen and is very peaceful . The 3 minnows think he/she is there papa and follow him around peacefully. I originally thought he was a spammer barb but I really don't think that is accurate. Help please I need to know what he is so I can research him/her

He is currently in a 55 with the following. 1 rainbow shark 4 inch, 1 Severum 5 inch , 1tiger oscar 2.5 inch, 1 serape tetra, 1 pleco, 6 corydoras, 3 angelfish, 3 minnows

I know I'm overstocked but I have a 55 waiting that is being cycled with some established media, also the tiger oscar was in bad shape at my LFS I felt like I could save him. I also do 10% changes daily with a 370gph canister and a 120 in tank filter running. Ideally I want to move the tiger oscar and this random barb with the pleco over . Any other options or ideas from you experts are appreciated.

Here is a pic of the entire community tank. The plants were all on sale and seem to be doing really well. The Severum is my favorite he loves attention so much

the rest of those fish will be fine in a 55g, but get a 75g or bigger for the Oscar and Severum within the next 6-12 months. Oscars grow to a foot in less than a year

+1

OR BIGGER

Sounds like you have a soft spot for rescuing fish, which is commendable, but you need to be sure you have the means to take care of them in the best way, too, or you're not truly rescuing them. You know what I'm saying? You should be researching first, not impulse buying when it comes to live creatures.

I'd return your other 55, and commit to getting a 90+ long term for your Sev/Oscar, or just rehome them to someone who has a better setup for them, now that you've taken them out of the store that they were in. Or... maybe your other 55 can be your "I'm fostering these fish for a month or two until they find good homes" tank. ;)

Props to you for live plants!
