Well I relatively new to this forum but here it goes.

I just bought a 100 Gallon tank, complete with everything, Fluval 403, Emp 400, Glass Tops, Stand, 300 Watt heater. I have read a lot on here on how to cycle the tank, and that has been very helpful. I pick up the tank on Saturday, and let the fun begin. i will stop by the lfs (San Jose) on the way back home and pick up a master test kit so everything is done right the first time. or at least i hope so. The Fish, thinking about a Devil, Oscar and cichlids. this forum has helped me out and will continue to do so. Thanks. Hopefully when i have more experience with fish I will provide helpful info as well.:nilly:

Welcome to MFK!!!

Looks like you have a good bead on getting the setup right. Feel free to ask questions or peruse the site for anything that may help you in your endeavors. Can't wait to see pics once you have the system up and running.

Thanks, i will provide Pic's for sure. Everybody has been quite helpfull and there is a lot of knowledge here. Getting excited about the tank, i pick her up on Saturday and should start the cycle then. We will see how it goes and I will update the process.

You're planning on a fishless cycle with ammonia?

Ammonia??? I thought the key was to get rid Of that. Be Easy i am new to this

The bacteria that makes an established tank, feeds off ammonia. You need ammonia to cycle a tank & feed the bacteria to proportions that it can support a fully-stocked tank, so you feed that bacteria with plain ammonia.
Many articles out there on FISHLESS CYCLING.

How were you planning on cycling that tank?

$5 worth of feeders to cycle you tank, give them away when you're done if you don't want them.

Yeah, just what I want--to start out my tank with a bunch of diseased fish... NIMT!

works for me and my fish have never been sick from the feeders, but I have used the same pile of feeders to cycle like 5 different tanks and I've had them forever. All the quarintined ones died months ago.
