A 5-pound black crappie may find its way into a lot of record books after 11-year-old Donivan Echols landed the trophy fishing at Lake Wilhelmina on June 6.
Echols had just made $75 working on his grandparents farm and quickly spent it all on fishing equipment at Wal Mart the day before he caught the fish on a minnow. According to the report from the Arkansas Fish and Game Commission, It took five hours before they could get an official weight, which came in at 5 pounds even. The black crappie was 18 inches long and had a 13-inch girth.
The fish will beat the Arkansas record, and according to IGFA records, should be at least a line class record, if not an all-tackle record. The current IGFA World Record is also an even 5 pounds.
Congratulations Donivan on the awesome catch!
