Hi guys, I got a new silver arowana a week ago and it has yet to eat. It is currently in a tank with a peacock eel and they are both around 7 inches long. I've tried to give him, or her, gutloaded crickets, guppies, cichlid pellets, earthworms and waxworms but no response. The eel however is very happy. The water is pristine and everything is as it should be but the aros mouth seems black. Should i be worried even more than I am already?:nilly: :chillpill:

nah, give the fish some time. some fish take longer to adapt than others. you can try feeding some mealworms, they float and are very good food.

There's about 4 threads on this subject going on right now, you may learn a lot if you haven't read them. It seems that everyone has picky fish right now. Don't worry, it's normal, he'll eat, oh boy he'll eat!

Hehe...if arowana's were warmblooded house pets they would be like cats. Dogs just do exactly what you think they are gunna do, cats are arogant and picky but can be warm when they want to. They are also very graceful !:D

 In addition to not eating, my aro seems to loosing scales and the fins look ragged. I've checked the water again and again but nothing seems to be out of order. I thought the peacock eel might be doing it but I'm not sure. Anyone have advice. By the way, this tank is a 125 gallon tank that is connected to two other 55s that have convicts and a large flowerhorn.:nilly:

I would say that it is taking a beating..what eel is it? watch the tank after lights out, see what happens..

The eel is a peacock eel aka the spiny eel and it is generally peaceful but if anything happens I have a spare approximately 40 gallon tank upstairs I could move it to. I'll wait till lights out and check.

Too late, I moved the eel because it was uncharacteristically agressive but the next mornig, i found the aro dead. So upsetting. I had it for barely a week and it passed. But I think it came sick because the poo was too light colored. well anyway, I will be careful about choosing the next one. Lesson learned.

wow, sorry to hear that. At that size, refusal to eat shouldn't kill it. From your description, it sounds like you're right, something was wrong or it was sick. I hope the other fish are OK. Are you going to try for another Aro? That isn't common, I think you had back luck. I certainly wouldn't blame yourself, sometimes it's just beyond our control.
