hello all, i will be buying a blue/black aro......... what are the hazards pertaining to this species????

1. get a lid because they jump out of the tank sometimes

thank you, its about 6" will that still be on the fragile side? and i hear you on the lid i just lost a silver today....... there was a 1" gap in the back of the tank (that is now fixed), and he jumped right out...............ugh! he was 13" and was awsome, well i guess you live and learn!!!

ahh sorry for you lost bro but yes live and learn form your mistakes i tape the back of the tank so nothing can get out, and i know some friends but velcro on the lid opening also.
They are jumpers--be aware of that fact!!! I lost one to jumping out of a hole I didn't think possible. They tend to be skittish (more so when young) so the aro will have to get used to you. My aros sometimes get spooked when I turn the light on. When it comes to food, feed them a varied diet. Try not to feed live feeders. I feed my aros pellets, shrimp, and crickets for treats.
