Hey guys,

I recently just picked up this arowana at a pretty good deal because of it's tail. Traded in my oscars and a couple of tin foil and only spent 15 bucks.

The damage looks a little deep and wanted to know if it's tail will ever grow back.

Sorry about the pic, I took it with my iphone. That pink spot on the top of the fish is just a reflection, overall this guy is very active and already eating.

Some people might suggest trimming the tail all the way back and letting it regrow completely. I will not say for sure that I know that would be the best thing to do, but this should heal in time. You got a SMOKIN deal on this guy BTW.

That is great to hear!! Just gotta wait it out then. I did see a youtube video on a guy cutting his arowana's tail so it will grow out evenly but I probably would mess that up so I wouldn't even try.. LOL...

I hope the other tank mates won't mess with the Arowana. I got 2 baby albino oscars and 3 small parrot fish. I'll be keeping an eye out on the oscars definitely! I got a buddy who's willing to take in the oscars if they start picking on the arowana.

I'll post pics in a few months with update.

should regenerate back with proper food and feeding as well as good water quality. Keep up with the water changes and it should be back before you know it.

The fin should heal, might not be perfect but looks almost perfect.

I've been doing weekly water changes of at least 20%. All my levels are at 0 and my Nitrates are under 10. The fish store I got him from fed the arowana live fish but luckily I got it on frozen blood worms and another frozen food called "cichlid delight". Well that was really for my oscars but wanted to not waste the food. He also likes silversides but ends up chewing the crap out of it then spitting it out. LOL. He doesn't like pellets tho which is ok cuz I mainly feed my fish frozen food.

Am I on the right track for the fin to heal properly?

It's been about 1 month since I posted this and his tail isn't showing any signs of growing back.... Do you think it's a goner or do I still have hope?

The arrowana had a bit of cloudy eye which is cured now. He's always been eating even with the cloudy eye and he grew since this last picture.

Last week I put some aqaurium salt (1/2 the recommended dose) and do a water change every week. Temp is at about 85 right now because for the cloudy eye. I'mma leave it like that till this Saturday then drop it down to about 80.

Water parameters are:
PH 7.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10-20
