So after 20 years of mostly cichlids, I'm trying out a jardini arowana. Just a little guy/gal at the moment maybe 6-7" and not eating for me yet, but I've only had him for 24hrs. His current home is a 330ish tank. 33"x8'x24". I'm hoping to keep a red devil and 10 clown loaches in there with him (doing fine for the moment), but we'll see. Any advice from owners on feeding, etc?

Beautiful Jardini! I'm hoping my place still has one ive been watching for a week now, anyways I have a silver that wouldn't eat for the 1st 2 and a half days then she took to shrimp but would only eat when I wasn't around....now she gets excited and darts around gobbling everything in sight! and also a side note (ive only had silvers) but my baby Oscar actually killed my 1st silver...from what ive read jardini are more aggressive...just a thought, anyways good luck!

nice little jar man! at that size i would feed it what ever it wants until it gets
at least 2-3" bigger than you can starve for a week at a time and try to get it
on your choice of staple like pellets or fresh cut sea foods. much easier this
way rather imo. but a jar and a rd together? might not work out so well. but
its a worth a shot if it works out it should be a sight to behold lol. the clown
loaches wont work though unless theyre already 6-7" + if not they'll get eaten
down the road as they grow very slow.

Best to find out what he was being fed before, and give that. If it is pellet trained already then its good.

Otherwise best to give what it likes most, need some error and trial to figure that out. But mostly they eat shrimps / market prawns. And if you are particular about pellets, you can insert pellets within the prawns.

And treat of crickets, meal worms, etc if they are available..

Thanks for the replies. I was a little worried because the store said it was eating guppies. I don't want to do live because of the risk diseases. Fortunately after watching everyone else eating bloodworms he decided to eat as well. As far as tankmates I've seen different combos with jardini, but am aware that all of the tankmates may need to go.

What a cute little guy! He is gorgeous! Don't worry too much about him not eating yet, my lil guy did that!

Obviously every fish is different, but in the two weeks I've had mine, this is what he has eaten so far:

Mussel - Carefully dropped near him so that he doesn't have to go down for it, you will eventually find a small bit that floats if you rip it up.
HIkari Cichlid Gold Floating - He LOVES these.
Raw Petit Pois Peas - any peas will do but that's what I had to hand.
Crickets - Small, obviously.
Mealworms - The white ones are better because there's no hard shell that can cause injury, you will eventually find some that float.
Frozen Bloodworms - Some will float, get the vitamin enriched ones if you can get them where you are.

I'm glad your guy ate some bloodworms, that's a great start!! Mine has roughly grown an inch in two weeks. Heads up to the quick growth!! My Arowana is a Silver, but I guess they may have the same sort of taste.

Interesting that you feed peas. I thought they were primarily carnivores. Goot to know.

Op nice jar
