Hey MFK, i wanted to ask your experienced opinions on how a new arowana would fair with a pair of oscars and a jag. Ive done a ton of research on the silver arowana and I understand water and tank needs and requirements. Ive seen videos on youtube with aros, Os, and jags. they seemed to do fine. The tank i currently am housing my babies in is a standard 125 gal, with a fluval 405 canister filter with a biowheel filter of adequite size en route. but until it gets here i am using a over the top hanging 50 gal filter. Currently doing 33% water changes every 3 weeks - 1 month. Wondering how long my 125gal will house the aro in, taking into consideration an average to above average growth rate. Thanks

Unless they are like 3", up the water changes for best health and growth, also try to get all the fish the same size...arrowana would probably do best the biggest

Thanks for the responses guys

How big are the oscars and jag right now? The silver aro really should be at least 10-11" long and twice as long as the cichlids before mixing with them. Silver arowana grow at a rate of 1 -1.5" per month on average, but growth spurts of upto 3" per month are not uncommon. Silver aro should be kept in a tank that is at least 3x as long as the aro and have a width/depth at least equal to the aro's length. What are the dimension's of your 125g tank? Having a depth/width of 18" limits you to an 18" aro. So starting with a recommended sized arowana, the silver aro will outgrow your tank in 4-6 months with average growth.

My O's are 10" and 8" the jag is 8". I decided to forego the arowanna....... for now due to I'm going away to college for my last two years and don't wanna leave That big of a responsibility on my little sister

Not many times do i see member make the right choice. You were realistic about the needs of the fish and your inability to commit to it. Pat on the back for not being impulsive and adding the aro. Everyone should commend this guy!
