I just got a silver arowana about 6-7" and ever since it got him he has been really skittish. When ever i get near the tank he would hide in a corner or just lay down on the gravel. He hasn't been eating either. I have had him for three days now. I was just wondering if any of you guys experienced this and how long did it last? Will his skittishness eventually go away?

it's my first time keeping an aro but i had other fishes that had the same problem. i think ur aro is stressed out being transferred to a new home. my lfs owner told me before and oh other advices from other fish forums, they said to keep the light(s) off in your tank. it will not eat when stressed out. but let's hear what our friends here will say :)

Sound advice, you might also add Blackwater extract if you haven't already.

It will take sometime. I got a baby Jardini and it took about a week and a half for him to get use to me. I would try to leave the lights off, but get a chair and sit in front of the tank whe you can. Get a fish book and read. Give the fish time to get use to its new surrounding and he will be eating you out of house and home in no time… Good luck

give the aro some time, aros sometimes take weeks if not months to feel comfortable in its new home. on top of that he has no idea who u are, spend as much time with him as you can so he can get to know you.

Do not worry it will take time for it to calm down. As far as eating...it took mine a week before it would when I first got them. It is normal for young arows to be skittish and scared at first.
I would limit traffic to the tank to a minimum to help it become more comfortable with the new surroundings at least for the first week or two. When you approach the tank...do so slowly. This will "learn" it that you are no threat. And what ethnics said sit nea the tank and spend time with it so it gets used to you.

Use slow approaches because If too startled by an aggresive approach to the tank, it could injure itself against the glass or decor.

Congratulations on the pick up!!!:headbang2

all has already been said..don't stress.

enjoy your Aro!
