I just picked up a male and female pair of Bowfins the female is about 10in. male is about 7-8in.

He can try but I doubt he will be succesful. It has been tried many times even with lab stimulation and such to no avail. Hopefully he has a nice outdoor pond he can try to breed them in. That would be awsome though if you did get them to breed in aquarium. That would be a major mile stone in native keeping.

At that size how do you know they're a male/female pair?

Been looking for information on sexual differences at this age but can't seem to find any info.

I live in Tn where they are native to here so I can throw them in my pond in a couple months with Plenty of anacris (aquatic plant spelling?) and let them over winter this year and see wat happens next april or may

I too am curious as to how you sexed them. I have a pair that are about 8-9 inches each and still can't tell what sex either is!
