IMG_0998.JPG I got these red spot gold severums yesterday and was wondering are these a new cross breed or have they been around for a while? and they are approx. 1.5 to 2 inches in size and was wondering if anyone can tell the sex or are they too small to tell right now?

IMG_0999.JPG This is my 8 inch gold severum and was wondering if anyone could sex it as well by looking at it? Also is this rare to have red fins on bottom?

All severums have red or maroon anal fins. Your second fish is a male gold severum. The super reds are not new, they've been around for 10 years or so, and they are not sexable at that size because females of the super reds have facial markings just like the males.

Thanks for the reply,I have had a super red before and it seemed alot more red all over at this size and when he matured he was mostly red all over, thats why when I seen these and they told me they were red spot gold severums I was getting something I had never seen before.

They are sold under a bunch of different names but they're all the same fish. Some are more red than others. They still haven't revealed how they were created but I think hormoning/color feeding plays a role, which would explain the variation in color intensity and coverage.
