Aight guys, Im new to the whole cichla thing but i bought a baby pbass at the LFS today.
He is 1" long and I have him in a 10 gal grow out till hes big enough to go in my 180 and not look like a feeder to my aro.
Any ways I got him today and wanna make sure hes healthy, ill post pics tomarrow, he still has his stress dress on but isnt breathing too heavy.

Is it normal for a baby pbass to just lay down on the bottom and hide in the beginning and be very scared of me. When should he eat and what should i feed him. Will he calm down. Believe it or not i have a penguin bio wheel rated for 70 gallons on it but plugged it up a bit with fake plants so it doesnt suck too much.

GIMME SOME TIPS PLEAAAAASE, i dont want him to die. thnx for any replies

They are shy when they are young. No worries. Give the little fella a few days and he'll be more comfortable. They also tend to be less shy if there are others in the tank too. But I had one by itself at that size, and after a week or two.. he was out front waiting for me to give him food all the time.

what should i feed him till he waits for me like my lmb does when i start throwing in krill.

guppies, or small rosy red minnows..after he eats for the first time..offer prepared food and see if he takes it

keep the temps up at around 85-86

yep what mightyoscar said and have a good amount of cover. Being so small he'll probably hide for a while til he gets bigger.

Yup at this size they tend to be very shy. If they are in groups they tend to be glassbangers from day one....like mine..Most likely they will only eat live food in the beggining..try some blood worms and brine shrimp when he gets settled in GL!!
