so today was the first day i fed my new florida spotted gar, it has been about 6 hours since they last ate and im noticing that you cant see the bulge in their stumach any more, i have owned carnivours before and with previous carnivours they only ate about twice a week. but ive never owned any carnivours this small. oh i should mention the gar are about 3 1/2 to 4 inches. so for gar that small is it a good idea to have food always available to them until they get bigger? or should i still only offer them food twice a week?

thanks

With young gar (especially that small) you want to offer food as often as it will eat it. Having feeders in the tank at all times isn't a bad idea, or you could just dump 10 or 15 in, and as soon as you notice they're all gone, dump in 10 or 15 more.

You will have to cut back on amount of feeding once it gets bigger, but for now it needs a lot of food to grow.

i agree

i fed my little longnose gar about 3 times a week and he still swimin around happily:nilly:
so i think thats wil be no problem....:grinno:
