A friend of mine just caught me a new born baby garter snake. I told him not to bring it to me but he did anyway. I have never had a baby snake this small, its about 6 inches long, and i dont know what to feed it. Right now it is in a salsa container with aspen bedding and a sauce cup as a hiding place. It has a bottle cap for water. I cant let it go around my house as it would die from all the chemicals in everybodys yards. Please help! This is only the second snake i've ever had.

Garter snakes eat gold fish...and poop all over you when you handle them, hehe.

You can get older ones to adapt to mice, but at that size I would be getting some feeder goldfish in small size and putting them in a water bowl for it.

The only feeder fish that are small enough for it are small guppies. I'll try small worms. It is teny tiny.

earthworms, frogs, tadpoles, feeder fish that were fed well.

try to have a small area for it to swim in but make sure there is a dry area as well as they can develop blisters from excessive humidity.

i have had success with feeding small snakes the tail of a pinky mouse until they are bigger. it might be worth a shot if the fish don't work out...

But what do i do with the rest of the pinky?

do you have a big fish that could eat it? i always fed the rest to other snakes but since this is your only one....I dont know

I guess i could feed it to my beardy.
