Does anyone know how normal it is that my ray constantly want to stay buried in the sand? He's a 5" pup and will eat a couple bites of shrimp and burry back in the sand. He just arrived on Tuesday this week so just wondering if it's an adjustment thing. Any thoughts?

Most likely just adjusting. As long as he keeps eating he should become more active as he gets comfortable.

My Ray’s were the same for a couple weeks. I found they were more comfortable feeding in the dark too if you think he’s not getting enough food. Every time mine had a big feed they’d bury themselves for hours.

Thank you for the reassurance. It's like being a new parent. You've researched and educated yourself as much as possible but it's real now and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything!

Any pics?
Try leaving the lights off during the day as well as night for a few days to allow to settle more. Anything else in the tank?
A happy ray should not bury all the time, however it should be no real cause for concern if the ray is new. But would help to know if there are any other tank mates that could be bothering it.

For what it’s worth last year I purchased a male and a female BD hybrid. The male seems to spend more time buried in the sand than the female. Both eat like pigs and are very active. Since yours is new and eating I am sure he is just adjusting. If you don’t mind me asking where did you purchase him and pictures would be nice.

There are 5 juvenile bala sharks 6 juvenile roseline sharks and 2 filament barbs 90% of time all swim mid to top water. I came home yesterday and he was playing in the bubble curtain and came over to the glass to see if I had food then buried again lol He is very active while lights are off. He ate great last night with no lights on and ate great again this morning!!! I think he really is adjusting to his new home. This is day 4.
