By the Beach!
I'm been thinking about getting one for months and finally decided today is the day! My girlfriend and I pick one up and its about 3". So here are my questions. What do you guys feed yours so they have a healthy diet? I was planning on feeding frozen bloodworms and spirulina brine shrimp, anything else I should add? I'm going to cut and sand a piece of PVC pipe for it to hide in, does pvc leach any chemicals that I have to worry about? The tank is a 55g and will be upgraded to a 180 in a couple of months. Any other tips to keep my new bgk happy would be awesome!!!

i just picked one up myself .. its in my 55 gal and i picked up a bunch of pvc. boiled some water and after it got to a nice boil .. shut off the heat and dropped the 3 pieces in the water. its about the same size .. small small .. but its doing ok. i hope to get it eating soon. going to try flake and frozen blood worms

well i got to thinking .. hey lets try to hand feed it some blood worms so i just did .. and he ate it up right away .. had since Tuesday or Wednesday and its hand feeding just fine. it even competes with the jag cichlids that it is housed with (they are 2") i hope that the BGK grows faster then the jags .. so that there is not any problems..

BGKs are comparitively slow growers =/

Make sure he has a couple spots where he can have naps without being bothered. Frozen blood worms / shrimp and even shrimp pellets are good foods for BGK. Apparently the white pvc is safe but the others are not. The chamber on an old gravel vac is prefect imo.

so are my jags... lol they grow painfully slow .. i dont know why... but my jags are not growing at a good speed at all ..

and i have a royal clown knife that has been outgrowing my oscars .. but a long shot.. so i hope maybe the BGK will do the same..

White pvc it is! Thanks for all the quick responses! Anyone else with helpful advice?

like i said .. i boiled some water and soaked the pvc in the water until it cooled down .. just to make sure the stuff was clean enough to put into the tank ..

blood worms is great for baby... good luck with him,,
