I finally stocked my sons new tank for his B day. Let it cycle for a good two months before getting fish. Checked the levels and they were good to go. So I got it stocked up. I am actually glad my wife pointed out the main fish we got him. It was labeled as a dinosaur bichir but was pretty sure it was a polypterus senegalus or senegal bichir. What threw me off is his spotting though. I thought from what I have read that senegals were a flat color. He has spotting along his back on both sides. Anyways I am happy we got him as I have been wanting one since I first saw pics of these guys on this site. I will probably be getting more for myself. Also If anyone knows of a good site to buy more of different types let me know. Would love to get an ornatipinnis or a delhezi.

Very nice little guy. Most if not all senegals will have green spotting on them. What size tank? I would go with the Del because the ornates get BIG.

When I get more I will probably be using a 75+ gallon. I wont be putting anymore in my sons tank. May even move this one when he gets bigger. Right now he is in a 20 gal with some rainbow fish and some cherry barbs. As he gets bigger he will either move out or the other fish will. I will have to see how he does in the smaller tank as he grows I know they get to be about 12 inches or so. I cant put him in my 55 though until he gets bigger as the O's would eat him and they are still juvies as well.
