I was wondering about tank decor I had a hide log in his tank that he seemed to stay in so I removed it for another piece that he could not hide under does it matter I mean is it better for him not to be able to hide I see most tanks with nothing in them. or giving him the hide log to make him feel more secure he just stays in it until the lights goes out then he comes out. I guess hide log or no hide log?

it's really up to you. I see most rhom tanks with very lil decor but i'm sure that's just the owner's preference since they probably want to see their fish. I believe in the wild they're ambush predators as oppose to open water hunters

Show us a photo of the hide log.

Its just like a log cave this fish can swim though.I thought it might just stay in it all the time but now im thinking maybe that shelter would be good. But then again no shelter might make him less skittish. I don't want him going in there and staying until the lights go out either.I might try it for a week and see if he comes out on his own.

I can't post a pic on here it wont work he's about 6in had him 4days

upload your photo to like photobucket.com first.

i'm working on my Rhom tank now and i dont have any wood only some small plants.. Black sand and dimmed lighting and dark background should do the job for the fish to feel itself happy without needing to hide.

Well when you think about it, in the wild, they usually hide in the shadows since its more of an ambush predator. With that being said, if you provided decent cover for the fish, it might make it feel more comfortable since it doesn't have to keep looking for cover. So having a few pieces of driftwood and some plants. You don't really need a cave so to speak.
