I was shopping at a new LFS last week when I came across this shark like fish. The LFS could not tell what it was so he just said that its some thing related to a red-tailed black shark.

Anyway, I've found out. Its labeo chrysphekadion, common name 'Black Shark'. I read somewhere that it can get to 24 inches. But I don't think so. Haven't heard of or seen one that big.

Can anyone tell how big it gets ???? any other thing about it worth knowing is also welcome.

Here's a pic..

First - get a better pic... if it's mottled like it looks, it's a Labeo variegatus, a very cool find. Otherwise, a black shark is still a very nice fish and yes they do get monster. I'm especially fond of the albino variety.

not a variegatus.. the mouth is shaped differently and the barbels are different also..I'm trying to get better pics but the fish is very shy..

Black sharks (Labeo chrysophekadion) can get huge...they aren't catfish though (wrong forum).

Labeo variegatus only grows to about a foot, not as large but still a monster.

Black sharks are Monsters. They aren't sharks though. LOL

Nope, they're cyrpinids. Like carp, goldfish, rosy reds and tiger barbs. Largest family of freshwater fishes on the globe. Over 2000 species.
