I have been trying to fatten up my newest pleco. It was really emaciated. Ive got it eating squash stuffed with shrimpellets but its still looking pretty thin.Im thinking its a female because it hasnt grown any long bristles like ive seen on other bns.Any suggestions on the fattening up process would be appreciated!:) :D :D :D :D :D :D

the head certainly doesn't look great.

Basically keep feeding at regular intervals. I'd stay away from the cucumbers of this world and go for something a little more substantial... like your squash and potatoes and shelled peas etc. I'd also give it some things like bloodworms, to give it some more protein.

Yeah the thing I've found with mine is if the food is being eaten by other fish then she isn't brave enough to muscle for it. I make sure it's in a corner or something where the other fish won't get it, and I feed algae wafers, catfish pellets, tropical flakes, green vegetables and bloodworm. Mine also eats a ton of algae lol.

I've just noticed that the eyes are terribly sunken. This really doesn't look like a healthy pleco at all. Best of luck bringing it back to health, but I wouldn't feel too bad if it doesn't make it. Looks to be Ancistrus sp. '3'

I don't claim to be a pleco master, but seeing his belly collapsed that much ...

Is there a chance he has a pebble or a bit of wood lodged in his mouth or throat?

Is it possible there is an obstruction that prevents him from eating and/or swallowing?

It came to him in that condition. It has since been eating, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was too far gone. Hope the little guy is ok.
