I bought two new BP's this weekend. One is 1.5 inches, the other about 2.5.

they hide all day and the 2.5 inch hardly moves out from his cover. They pick at food that comes near them as it floats, but otherwise they wont eat. There does not appear to be anything wrong with them, and they where swimming around in the store.

I am thinking of removing the decor so maybe they will be more active. My 4 inch Severum doesnt bother them so it cant be him. I know they are a shy fish but my older one who passed away was not like this. After the first day he was looking for food at the top of the tank. These guys have barely eaten in 4 days and hardly come out to check out the tank.

This is normal. BP's sometimes take months to get comfortable. Leave the decor, if you remove it might take longer for them to be confident. Just be patient and they'll come around.
