hello im a brand new breeder i have not bread any fish in the past. ive only been fish keeping for a little over a year but sense the day i started i seen money in breeding. but sense the day ive started ive blown thouslands in the hobby like many other people im sure, but the other day i seen that a few 14yo kids aare attempting and successfully breeding and selling fish so i now im inspired and want to try too. but i plan(hope) to breed bettas i basically did some research and know how im gonna gather up as many 5+ gallon tanks i can find to breed them, but what i really wanna do in time is to make some amazing bettas bigger, longer finned, crossbread exotic bettas, but basically i hav never bread before and dont know if this is even possible. can i crossbreed a double tail with a cowntail to make a double crowntail is this possible and is there any money to be made in this or am i crazy, plus id love to know where to find exotic stock and top of the line bettas s far im mainly shopping aroud my lfs and aquabid but when i get the hang of it i wanna go big any adivce and also anyone kno where to get cheap 5 gal tanks? thank you in advance

Bettas are not that hard to breed, but breeding top quality bettas is. In addition to a few tanks, you will need lots of bowls or jars to raise your fish. Small fry can be kept together in tanks, but once they are sexable, males have to be removed and placed in separate containers. Females can be raised together in tanks. Be prepared to do lots of water changes on the bowls (daily water changes are best for optimal growth)

As far as making money selling bettas goes, it is not going to be easy. Most stores can sell nice bettas for $5 or less. Most betta breeders breed for fun, not money.

If you are really serious about this project, I can hook you up with a friend of mine who is one of the top IBC (International Betta Congress) breeders in the country and happens to live in New Jersey.
