I got a brown bullhead at the LFS today. He came in with the feeder goldfish.

He's a little bigger than 3 inches.

I don't have any photos now, but I will take some later when I have time.

How fast do you think he will grow?

He is grudgingly takes flakes (the lfs has been feeding it flakes. He's been at the LFS for a while) What is the best food for a bullhead? He's chasing the minnow in the quarrantine tank right now (I have a rosy red in there to keep the tank's nitrogen cycle going)

I am planning to put him into a 90 gallon tank later on when it finishes cycling. I also want to put other natives such as sunfish or bass in there. Will the sunfish or bass bother/eat the bullhead?

It'll be fine with the sunfish and bass. Bullheads tend to hide most of the day and come out at night to feed. They'll eat just about anything, so variety is key.

i just got one that was qt-ing at a friends house and he loves worms, frozen thawed shrimp, and frozen thawed bloodworm cubes. mine is about 5 inches long now and i will post picks of aquarium soon.

yea the bass and sunfish shouldn't bother the catfish, at least my sunfish and bass con't even look the catfish

In mid 70s temp. water with ample feeding they can reach 8-10" in a year.

the water is a little warmer than that. my room is the part of the house where the sun shines on it pretty much all the time.

It's about 80 degrees in the tank. What is their highest temperature of tolerance? I don't want him to die. I am doing periodic water changes, but it doesn't seem to be enough

Mid 80s is not a problem for brown bullheads (Ameiurus nebulosa) they will tolerate temps from just above freezing to at least low 90s, the growth rate I mentioned was from an article on aquaculture for them and applies to the mid 70s range, growth rates vary with temps. They are very hardy fish.

Congrats on your pick up. Bullheads make a great "monster" cat that will not outgrow a reasonably sized tank.
10" in a year is more than possible, my black hit 10" in year one and is not 12" after year two.:)
