ok im trying to figure out the thickness of glass i would need, this will be my first build, ive read a bit on diy tanks and wanna give it a go. my deminsions will be 6'Lx6'Wx2"H with a braced open top, more than likely itll be a hybrid plywood glass build, seethru on 2 sides. my question is glass thickness, ive read some garf tankbuilds it mentions 1/4" upto 18" now obviously a bit over that of course at 24". so my question is, if i want a front and side glass, what is the ideal thickness for a 6'Lx2'H piece? am i better to go with acylic?

also would this size 6x6x2 be adequate enough for a couple cat sharks for life? ive been doing aquariums for my entire life so im not new to any of this, i understand that the minimum is 180 gallon but at that i feel 180 is to small for any shark. the idea behind the size is to add more swimming room rather then height. i think a shark would feel better haveing 36 square feet to swim rather then 8. 6x6x2 is roughly 540 us gallons

any suggestions comments or concerns before i start?

thanks for anyones input

1/2" plate glass should do just fine

that was my thinking as well, i had a quote for the glass cut to size, does $83 for each panel sound high?

Prices vary on location. That would be pretty cheap in my area. U sure that was for 1/2"?

My factory 110g tank is 30" high and has 1/2" glass. My understanding is the height of a tank is the primary factor in determining the thickness of glass needed.

$83 a side to do it right doesn't sound too outrageous. Any solution involving shipping the glass will most likely eat up any savings with shipping charges.
