im planning out my 415 gal build 84Lx42Wx30h and kno i need to filter at least 5 times that much water. My question is what is going to be my best way to accomplish this with out being to difficult. I dont want to make a built in the tank because i will lose some of my width and i dont want to do that and i cant go any wider or i will never get it into the house

I'd use a sump personally. Set the return to come back as a spray-bar to help with aeration.

RUGF
I know it isn't currently in vogue. Check some old Chompers threads.
Think outside the box.

Mate this is MFKs...

You will need a sump, an over head filter, a refuguim, a RUGF, 4 FX5s, 3 Rena XP3s, some Ac110s and 75% water changes daily.

Now that's filtration! I would go with a sump as well but I would also supplement the sump with a large canister filter. I have a 315G and have a large dual smp setup but keep an fx5 on the tank as well to polish the water. If you are building the tank, make sure water feeds the sump/filter from the lower part of the tank as well as the surface.

I am looking into the sump idea, i just cant seem to find any calculations on what size i will need. Plus im new to the sump set ups i understand what they do just never had one. And would i be able to do a cannister and a sump into the same intake. Say into seperate ends of some cpvc will small holes drilled into it for a intake...
