Woo, while searching for crayfish I scooped up another bullhead without knowing, I almost put him back in the water, good thing I didn't! Anyways, I didn't have another cycled tank for him where he wouldn't get eaten so I put him with my other bullhead in the 7 gallon. Small, I know but I'll get more tanks cycled up soon. He's more stockier but is maybe a cm smaller.
He's much more darker than the other bullhead, almost black, and his color pattern is exactlly the same, except it's more darker. They both get along, and when I put him in, my first bullhead started to explore the tank, both did with each other. Which is something the first didn't do. I know this friendship won't last long, so how many bullheads can go in a 400 gallon tank? It's my new project for next month! :D

Do you want just bullheads in the tank? I haven't kept them in groups, but from what I've heard they don't really have aggression issues. If your fish decide to spawn there may be some territoriality shown by the parents while protecting their nest or fry.

I know that's not much of an answer. I suggest starting with a few and watching them interact for a while before adding more.

By the way, what dimensions do you have planned for the tank? A shallow tank with a big footprint is probably the way to go to maximize the number of bullheads you can keep.

even though they have the size and rated as panfish, remember they are catfish! unlike their larger cousins they will get along untill they reach the size of needing territory. the larger cats need room from the start. good luck though. they are messing cats, but very aggressive at feeding time.
