I had a buddy who had a caiman once. It came with the aquarium he wanted so he was stuck with it. i was the only one willing to handle it once it got over 3ft. Needless to say it was a hassle, all the way around.
We ended up doing something similiar in his house. We created an enclosure that was pretty much maintenance free. There was no reason to get in the enclosure as it could be cleaned from out side of it via hosing. It wasn't as big as what you're building though.
This was over 20 years ago and back then, feed animals were not as commonly available as they are today. So I suggested to always keep some plastic bags handy in the car so that you could always pick up any fresh road kill that you came across. Or drove across. But I think that's a great idea, even for you. You'll save some beans, don't need to be killing live animals, caimans love carrion anyways, and you'll help keep your streets clean.
