Hey, Im interested in getting started with my first SW aquarium. I have a way to get a young California Round Ray, however would my tank be big enough? Its about 55gallons, 36X18X18.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in Advance.

Welcome to the site.
Glad to see your interest in saltwater rays, but sadly the 55 is too small. When it comes to rays, you need two things: Floor space and water volume to offset the waste produced.

There are several people here that are currently keeping them, and I know they'll chime in. I haven't kept one in a few years.

i had 2 babies that were 2 1/4 inches and they lived in a 4' tank only because the mother would get to the food before they could and after 3 months they were 3 3/4 inches and went to a 5' kiddie pool so unless you get a tiny pup and will move it to a suitable size taank or pool in a few months dont do it to the ray, way to small

i thinks it's best to save your money and purchase a tank like 6 feet by 3 feet by 2 feet....that i think is ample space for two. Don't immediately think this is the conclusion...i've never owed a cali, wait for some people to chime in and ask what size tank they have. Also their is room to add fish....

Rays like to swim alot. They are very active, with room they will continually swim so even a 120 will not be a permenant place for it grow out although people do it but I dont recomend it
