Okay, so I just got a new camera (cannon s90) and have been playing around with it some. I am still getting used to the controls and settings but the resulting pictures are REALLY good for a point and shoot style camera.

all but 2 of these pictures have remained unedited except for what I could play with on the camera.

My old ball python (that I gave to a friend) seeing if he could escape the camera

My water monitor trying to decide if he should try killing the camera

My sav wondering if he could eat the camera

The pacu, also wanting to eat the camera

Julio is always good and poses for the camera

So, it looks like your water monitor and you share a bathtub.

Nice pics and animals, and is that a black pacu?

haha, nah, he just has a big tub in his tank- a re-purposed cat liter pan. and it is a red belly pacu- I don't have the space for a black pacu.

Ah I got my hopes up. But still love those two shots.

okay, I am getting the hang of the camera now. It is no DSLR but for the price, it is pretty darn close (plus it fits in my pocket!).
6th one down is my favorite.

Enjoy the insomnia.

haha, no. These are all mine (except the ball python which was formerly mine). I don't live at the zoo but I do work at one so it does feel like I am living there sometimes. this is only about half my collection too. I currently have:
one mata mata turtle, a Jade goby, Royal clown knife, red bellied Pacu, FL Gar, countless crayfish, and loads of feeder minnows. Also, several snakes including pine snakes, texas indigo, eyelash vipers, monocled cobras, canebrake rattlesnake, diamondback rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, and copperheads. Lizards including Julio, my iguana (don't tell him that, he thinks he is a dog), a savanna monitor, frilled dragon, and a water monitor, 2 mature male Aviculara metalica, 0.0.1 Leiurus quinquestriatus, Pandinus imperator, and 0.0.1 Hadrurus arizonensis.

Awesome pix.

I might have to look into getting one. DSLR is just too big and heavy to carry around everywhere.

That is exactly why I went with this one. There is some trade off in quality but if you really take your time with it and set up the shot nicely, you will get some great shots. Like they say, "it's not the camera, it's the photographer."

this one has a neat little function of bracketing so that it will take 3 pics with different settings to allow for high dynamic range shots so I am going to play with that this weekend when I go camping and see how it turns out.
