Hi all,

I've got an established tank with a canister filter at the moment which has been running quite well for a number of months.

The question is, I have just put in a new canister filter straight from the box to run in addition to my current set up. Is this going to be a prob as the new filter itself has not been established yet?

The fish currently in there is a red snakehead (40 cm) and a common pleco (20cm).

Cheers

I dont see how it would affect it and a plus is that the new one will probably colonize faster with that older established filter

What i think you can do is soak the biological media with any of the bacteria boosting chemicals Like Cycle or bio spira

Im not sure but it sounds like that would work

red sh is tough and i think the pleco too, even though i never owned one.
you could take out both filters and sh would still thrive. :)

There should be no problems at all, Since you have the one Established Canister on the tank. Once the second Canister is Established itll make maintaining them easier, as you can change/clean one an leave the other for the next time.

Thanks for that everyone

I can breathe a sigh of relief then...I know SN's are tough but I wasn't sure whether I would get an ammonia spike which may kill my fish while the filter gets settled in.

I appreciate the comments

Cheers
