Hello, I currently have a 150 gallon tank with 2 Rena xp3 and a Magnume 350. I also have a Fluval 304 but leaks like a siv. I recently got an Aqua 25 watt uv filter and was going to use the 304 to run into it. I have replaced everything on the 304 but still leak's, turns out it is just to much pressure for that little filter to handel. Over the last couple of years I have been collecting part for a wet dry filter which I could incorporate the UV into. I have a 29 gallon tank that I can use for a sump, a 950 gph that would put out about 600 after plumbing and I have one of those Bio boxes that you set on the tank for the drip part. I have attached an image of a simular product. So on to my question. Do you think it better for me to purchase the rest of the parts for a wet/dry or go with something like a FX5? The FX5 I can get for under 300$ shipped, and the wet/dry would probably cost me 100$ for the rest of parts and materials. The tank is moderatly stocked with small tropical fish that are already full adult size. I would say about 50%-60% load going by the 1 inch per gallon method.

Howdy,

W/D vs canister is a question of belief and desired user involvement, DIY vs cost.

The only real difference for fishkeeping is: W/D is detrimental for healthy plant growth. Flourishing, planted tanks almost exclusively run on canisters.

I personally like the idea that canisters are completely encased.
