Thought I would mention that I started making my own aquarium backrounds by using butcher paper and all my old magazine pictures and it is so much neater than buying the store bought sheets. This way my tanks have my own personalization. Collage work is cheap, easy and looks more interesting.

Any pics? Sounds pretty sweet! I have some sort of really awesome photo printer. Not sure the type. But its huge! Like 2' wide by like 2' high. And I have on multiple occasions made diy aquarium things out of this. I print high quality wallpapers off of it. On thick photo paper as well, so it doesn't rip easily. You can also try this if you'd like. Also fun for the kids as they can choose nearly any background they can think of

I just did one out of construction paper :p one of my LFS tried charging me $4 a foot for just simple black with a blue reverse side background so i needed 4.5 feet so like $18 before tax so i'm like nah! went and taped some black construction paper and there we go! and free :p

i did this before too. i crumpled a bunch of brown butcher paper then i layed it down flat and from an angle went over it lightlly with some black spray paint to simulate shadows.
