Hey all, this is my first post here on these wonderful forums. I currently keep an axolotl ( is anyone doesnt know what that is, its a caudate or salamander type aquatic animal) and really want to get a fun cichlid. I friend of mine has a red devil and was thinking about getting one. This will be my first "fish" tank but have experience with my axolotl.

The red devil I want to purchase will be around 4 inches, and will be going into a 75 gal with a couple other small cichlids, and 3 pacu. I realize mixing is a bad idea but it wouldnt hurt until it get better correct?

Last note/question: I have little experience in the cichlid field and only know of a few, including the monsters (umbee, dovii) and know those are way to big for me. Anyone have suggestions for another aggressive cichlid i could purchase that would be fine in a 75g for life?

(I say aggressive because i hear they are most entertaining, and will interact with you)

welcome to mfk,a 75 will house a grown red devil and thats it and it will prolly even outgrow that. dont do the pacu they grow to 2' you have to have an enourmous aquarium to properly house them.green terror would be nice in that tank or jack dempsey, severums arent aggressive but quite quirky and entertaining.

I also plan on tanking the red devil out of the tank by spring. So wouldnt being getting huge while in that tank.

Thanks for the responses. This is not cichlid related but my buddy has a catfish with barbs coming off of the fins and its a leopard type pattern all over. Just wondering what kind of catfish this is?

I have been looking around, and it looks very similar to a leopard plecos, the pattern is a little different though. Same body structure and everything though. His does have barbs/spines though.
