Hey all, I have a 75 gal that I want to turn into a cichlid tank. I think I've narrowed it down to malawian cichlids. I really like peacocks, electric blues and johannis. I was wondering about compatibility between the species, how many i could house, and hoping to pick out good activity with good color. Also, I was hoping I could put my 9 in common plec in there as well as another bottom feeder, if you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

well the pleco is cool to go in but the peacock do you mean bass? cause they wouldnt go in a 75 gallon to small for it and the electric blues would be fine and johannis with the electric blues im not sure..but for another bottom feeder go for like another pleco i guess id do a king tiger pleco or a possible bristlenose cause of there size is not big but yea if i were you looking for colorful fish for a 75 gallon id go with firemouth cichlids they are somewhat small very colorful and cool little fish! good luck man any other ideas on here that look good think about them!!

by peacock you mean peacock malawis hey?? A cool bottom feeder that would work well with ur cichlids would be another pleco or a feather fin syndosis i think thats how u spell it lol

No i dont mean the peacock bass, I meant the Aulonocara species . I've heard the firemouths suggested before. I'm definitely going to be checking those out. Thanks :) I was hoping to put a diff type of catfish with them, to add variety to the bottom level.

There are some syno catfish that are from lake Tanganyika that would work well. I have syno petricola in with my mbuna. syno multipunctatus is another option. Both are active, and like to be in groups. They can handle the aggression and like the same water parameters.

i probably wouldnt do firemouths with mbuna.
id do at least 1 m 5 f ratio.
Yellow labs always give the tank some color. Perhaps albino socolofi?
I think the number of species will depend of your tank measurements

Also have a question about the substrate. What kind of sand should I use? I really want to use sand for the look of it and to hopefully bring out the natural behaviors of the fish.

Ive been checking out Frontosas and I am really diggin them. I know they get pretty large, would a 75 be too small for them, to keep with some diff color peacocks?
