Hello all,

I just started up my first tank. 55g corner bow front with three residents, a Black Convict, Green Terror and a Jack Dempsey.

The Green Terror was sold to me as a Jack Dempsey but I'm convinced it was labeled wrong. The GT is currently 2 1/2", the Dempsey right behind it and the Black Convict is about half the size of the GT.
With 55g I'm trying to stay away from the Oscar sized fish but would like to know if I could comfortably add one or two more tank residents.
As it stands now the GT will chase the others if they get close but hasn't taken a piece out of them. There is no conflict between the Convict and Dempsey.
Another Convict is an option but I'm pretty sure the one I have is a male; I don't want to get a female and have to deal with a breeding pair and am not sure if another male would start a fight.

The tank is still cycling so any additions wouldn't happen until this is complete.

No. IMO you're already over stocked when that JD and GT get to adult size and I believe overstock won't be your only problem when those two aggressive guys get full grown (not to mention the third wheel Con that can also get quite aggressive spite it's smaller size). Dither is the only thing I would even consider.

Hello and welcome! It really depends on the residents you intend to keep as well as your filtration. I have a 90 with a jd, gt, con, firemouth and midas and the jd and midas are moving to a much larger tank next week due to territorial disputes and, well..... lack of space. Dempseys and saums can reach 12" and in a 4' tank it would be pushing it even if they did get along.

What are the dimensions of your tank? Footprint is far more important than volume for most cichlids.

The footprint is unfortunately on the smaller side for a 55 gallon as it's a wedge tank. I don't have the measurements on hand but its more volume than anything.
Sounds like I'll be sticking to these three and keeping an eye on them as they grow. I have some time as they're still small but will prepare for setting up an additional tank to split them up when they outgrow this one.
Thanks for the advice!
