I have just set up a new cichlid tank. No fish yet, but I have a frien that breeds many different kinds. I am just looking for some general advise on tank and what is the best way to set it up. I am posting a pick of how I have it set up now. Give me your thoughts and maybe post some pics of your cichlid tanks.1.jpg

fish good 084.jpg heres my 6x2x2, coral sand, river rocks, black painted background. yours is a nice little set up. id have it a little more natural looking but as long as theres some hiding places you should do what you like. what fish was you thinking off, its easy to buy cute baby cichlids and end up overstocked like me... be warned lol.

I did plan on making it with a black backround, But there is a windo right behind it and I like the natural light coming threw. To Lilbabyemma, I do have sand in there. It is black sand. I went with the black sand and more colors because I kinda plan on it being a show piece of sorts. I do plan on getting more rocks and stuff for hiding places.

Only problem with the window is algae which im sure you know. I had a tank near my one window and the tank would get a ton of algae. Either way nice set up. You have cichlids before? I guess your keeping african?

I have only had Oscars and Jags. But yes I am getting africans. I know the natural light does help algea grow fast, but I will just have to keep up on it. Plus there is an over hang outside the window and it dont get direct sunlight.
