Hi I'm new to Monster Fish Keepers and I was wondering if anyone had any past sturgeon keeping experience here. My dad had bought a 5 foot sturgeon from a Japanese supermarket and let it go in his 2,500 koi pond (after much reviving which I think I'll go into another time). He says that the sturgeon will just eat snails and critters in the algae. I know that this much is true, but I doubt that a sturgeon this size can stay on snails and insect larvae forever. I was wondering if there was some other food source needed to raise sturgeon, such as fiddler crabs and the like, as there is nothing online that mentions a food source that can be home raised. I'd really like to be able to help this sturgeon recover (he was neglected in the supermarket) and keep him alive because he/she is really friendly, sticking its nose out of the water and going for the occasional pat. Any help would be much appreciated :D

There are companies that make sturgeon pellets. Hikari just stopped making it. He definitely needs pelleted food!

Thanks everyone for the contributed information :D I've managed to convince my dad to give the sturgeon some food source, and he's turned to feeder goldfish for now. I didn't expect for the sturgeon to eat 20 feeder goldfish, but lo and behold he did :P Wish I was in San Francisco seeing all that.

wouldnt use feeder goldfish, not very nutritional and can cause health problems for the sturgeon.
