So i finally got it all set up. Got an albinox snow cornsnake in a 20G long he ate the day after i brought him home (he was supposed to eat that day at the pet store). that was on wednesday he ate again that night. But the set up is i have a 20-30 gallon sized UTH on one side and then a heat lamp on the other wiht a basking bulb. he usually hides under the apen. and he isnt out much so i dont usually use the lamp? should i ive read a lot that they dont need heat lamps whats ur 2 cents?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!

snakes dont need to bask so you can get rid of the lamp.everything else sounds good
oh and pics or it didnt happen :D
false. all reptiles need a warm side and a cool side. snakes don't necessarily climb out onto a rock, but they still thermoregulate.

My common corn eats every 7-10 days, 1-2 fuzzies, he's 18 mos old. Totally rips into 2 pinkies (live) every 10-14 days. He's lukewarm about taking frozen, but takes to live food every 7-10 days. Time to starve him 10-14 days and offer frozen again...

I would ditch the heat lamp - my corn hid all the time when I had one on her cage. She seemed just fine with the heat pad. My corn also liked to bury in aspen when she was younger. Just watch carefully for urates and feces as they can cause the aspen to mold.

You only need one or the other, as long as there is a hot and a cool side, you are good to go. Feed a mouse that is about twice as large as the snakes head once a week or once every other week and you will be golden.

Corn snakes are the best snakes out there for beginners and they are not completely inbred like ball pythons. Not to mention they are just down right cool. Good luck and post pics when you get the chance!

i use a heatmat at one end and thats it for heat.
i feed once a week. when they were smaller i did every 5 days.
